Sharkey

Sharkey is a remarkable Jack Russell.  She can endear any who engage her, entertain hundreds of children at a time, bring a smile to the face of those at hospices and retirement centers, then turn right around and try to kill the garden hose.  She is a Jack in every sense of the word.  While she will pose for any picture in ridiculous costumes with the patience most teenagers would lack, she will also bark at anything that moves, eat foreign objects including plastic dishes and car keys, and hog the entire queen sized bed leaving little room for human occupants.  Her bark is loud enough to wake the dead but the sound of her little paws trotting down the hallway make me smile.  Whatever the day brings she’s ready to take it on! Suffice it to say, she’s one in a million.  Sharkey, along with Charm, and Kittyhead, keep me on my toes to say the least.

The Adventures of Sharkey the Dog is a series of books intended for children ages 3 – 6.  Her books discuss important issues to children and present them in a non-threatening way.  Subjects such as bullying, diversity, fear, sharing, loss and friendship are becoming more and more prominent in a society that offers less family values, less neighborhood kinship, and more problems for children to solve than fifty years ago.
