Blackberries and Raspberries by Susan R. Stoltz

Well, the time has come that we are finally getting produce from our garden.  It's been a windy summer here so some of the bushes had the blooms blown right off of them.  The blackberries and raspberries have finally come into their own. 

We have 37 tomatoes on the vines with about 150 more blooms.  It helps that I planted 38 tomato plants.  The peppers are finally turning red and we've had lots of servings of the sugar snap peas.  They suffered, however, in the record heat of this past month.The broccoli is about to take over as well(...)

This morning I went out to see
The flowers while the dogs did pee.
So yellow, blue and pink were they
"Bright morning" they just seemed to say.

And then I noticed in the back
One sunflower several leaves did lack.
I took a step the carnage to view
beneath the early shimmering dew.
And there they were, one, two and three
green and brown and reigning free.
upon my herbs and flowers bright
They brought their special horrid blight.

I stomped about but wasn't quick
Their presence made me feel so sick.
They hopped around just out of reach
